Nov 25, 2008 My pancreas did not cause pain when I had Acute Severe Pancreatitis. In the deepest throws of my very worse day (to date) dealing with pancreatitis, the pain was only mild and uncomfortable. Granted, drinking anything (including non-alcoholic beverages such as water) felt - internally - as though the liquid was cascading directly past the top center part of my stomach between the bottom of my rib cage (the pancreas region) and falling directly down into the blatter, without ever being digested first. In all actuality, that is probably not too far from what was happening at that time. Nonetheless, it did not hurt. It felt odd. The feeling was clearly not normal, but the pancreas did not hurt as a result of experiencing full blow Severe Acute Pancreatitis which has an extremely high mortality rate. I believe I had mild discomfort in the pancreas region for about a year, or more, before realizing the problem was actually the pancreas. In fact, if it wasn't for reflexology I doubt I would have ever realized the discomfort had to do with my pancreas rather then just a bit of stomach discomfort. There is little doubt that I would have had organ failure (heart failure most likely due to the very low pulse rate I was experiencing) from the Acute Severe Pancreatitis long before ever experiencing pain associated with Pancreatitis. Don't wait for severe pain before seeing a doctor or trying to treat your pancreatitis. Severe pain may never arrive. In fact, you may never experience anything more than a dull pain. That doesn't mean the disease is not in full swing. I never really experienced dizziness or back pain which are two common signs of pancreatitis. Although, to this day (actually, I am currently experiencing it) I experience bloating which is a sign of pancreatitis. In my particular case today the bloating is a direct result of too much caffeine bothering my pancreas. To cure this symptom, I must drink less caffeine as the pancreas cannot currently handle the amount I am putting into my body. Nonetheless, it is a mild discomfort, not extreme pain.
